Once again, this sounds like something out of a sci-fi movie. A phone that can fold in half? Impossible, you say. And I’d have to disagree. It’s set to be released later this year from Korean phone giant Samsung. Samsung thought of the idea after a sort of lull in the smartphone market because of incremental software updates and people’s lack of interest in constantly updating their phone for minute changes. Samsung needed a game changer. After many prototypes, it’s finally ready. Samsung is on the fore-front of game changer smart phones. It released the Galaxy S7 Edge earlier last year, which featured a screen that wrapped around the phone and extended to the sides. Initial pros that I can think of regarding this foldable phone is first, it’d be more portable and more convenient. It could also increase the size of the screen without compromising bulk. However, there are also technical issues to think about with the actual design of the foldable phone. Will the circuit boards inside the phone have to become more flexible? I’m excited to see where this new technology lands. Who knows, maybe one day, we’ll be able to fold our phones like a map in our pocket. I have a strong feeling that hipsters will love the old world feel of folding a smartphone up like a map. But that’s just me.
